    Meh!

I’ve been wanting to post but then I haven’t been able to be bothered. I seem to be endlessly having too many thoughts and not enough focus lately. It’s a feast or famine when it comes to writing here. Was going to try to do a whole month of writing every day but that’s obviously not going to happen. :)

We are having flashbacks to winter with wet and windy days lately. I think we’re getting a break and it’s going to warm up over the weekend. I was sitting on the sofa in a short sleeve t-shirt while playing a game on the Wii and I was literally shivering. I’ve taken to wearing slippers and and my warm robe again. It kind of reminds me of when Game Fanatic was a few weeks old and his crying seemed to go on and on no matter what we did. Came to find that he was cold. Usually November is pretty warm but there are some days that are chilly, of course. Felt so stupid at the time for not realising he was cold but probably shouldn’t have since I was so new to taking care of babies and all.

The homeschool moderator is coming out in two weeks and I still don’t know what I will show her. Nothing ever seems to go to plan, even the more viable ideas. I will come up with something and it will just have to do. Will have to go out and buy the workbooks for Lego Lover for next year. Won’t buy too much because we didn’t end up using very many of them this year. As he gets older, I am sure we will move away from the book work completely.

The Scientist and I went to see Augie March on Monday night. I enjoyed it very much but I found the crowd way too silent. It was so quiet you could hear the rain on the roof of the theater in-between songs. The crowd became a bit more livelier around the time of the encore but it was still pretty quiet.  Musically I thought it was great aside from one song that really sounded too much like the recording. While I really enjoyed myself, I must admit it wasn’t that awe and wonder I’ve felt at other shows. It’s been suggested it was the Monday night show problem. Just not a good day for concerts in Perth. As it was we were feeling rushed to leave by the end to pick up the boys from my friend’s house.

    Dragging along

It’s been rather a chilly start to spring around here and I’ve been lacking energy lately. I’m not getting much exercise and I’m struggling to keep from going overboard on carbohydrates (my big weakness, food-wise). I can’t help feeling that if it warms up and turns into spring proper, I might come back alive.

Meanwhile, I’ve been battling a blocked left ear for a couple weeks now. I had a reprieve for a few days but it’s back now. I’m also having regular stomach pains and haven’t been able to figure out the reason. The Scientist keeps saying I need to see the doctor but I figure it will suddenly disappear about the time I do that. I think the ear problem is likely related to reflux…maybe the stomach problem is also related.

Slightly-related, I’ve been considering going dairy-free for a while to see if it helps with some of the troublesome symptoms I have. While most don’t keep me in bed, they are rather disruptive to everyday life. I’ve not done this as yet because I’ve not been able to find a satisfactory alternative to milk. My previous attempts to drink soy milk have not gone very well. I just haven’t liked the taste at all. But I did try some with chocolate flavoring added this weekend and it was actually pretty decent. So maybe I should revisit soy milk as an alternative.

    Holiday, part one (long)

So we left on Monday for the six hour drive down to Cape Howe Cottages where we were staying at the Snug. It was cold and rainy as we left the city, with forecasts for the same over the week. The drive down was mostly uneventful, aside from a bit of a mechanical scare with the car where it was refusing to change certain gears just as we were leaving the city. It was okay after awhile and all was fine the rest of the journey. We stopped for lunch in Kojonup, a small town about two hours aways from our destination. Lego Lover refused to eat there or even to stay inside so waited in the car while we ate. He ate some of the snacks in the car instead and I guess was just fine with that.

We arrived at the cottage around 3pm, I think. It was late afternoon and the owner happened to come out to the gate just as we arrived, which was very timely. The rains had stopped at this point so we were able to take all our belongings inside in our own time. The kids were over the moon to be there and Lego Lover quickly unpacked his little bag and put everything in its place. He and Game Fanatic settled in quite quickly to just hanging out.

    Blowing in the wind

This morning almost half of our back fence blew over during yet another storm. We heard a huge noise, thought it was the shed, then looked out to see the fence down and a good view into the neighbors’ yard. Our neighbor was on top of things, called insurance and a fence company for quotes quite early. Because of his quick work, we will have the fence repaired on Wednesday. This is the first storm damage we’ve had in the thirteen years we’ve lived here so I suppose we’ve had a good run and it was just our turn.

The storm has continued throughout the day and into the night. We’ve had lots of rain, hail, gale force winds and more wind along with thunder and lightning for brief periods. I made the mistake of opening the front door when the last hail was falling, only to get soaked by rain and hail blowing into the house. At the moment, the rain seems to have stopped but there are still periods of strong winds and it’s quite cold.

    Wet days

Today was yet another very wet day in our neck of the woods. It started in the latter part of the morning and rained steadily all afternoon. The weekly newspaper deliveries have been delayed until tomorrow in homes of a break. I believe we will have an early and rough allergy season ahead of us in the spring.

I went on a search to find a dvd of To Kill a Mockingbird but have had little success. It seems it will be necessary to purchase this one online. I will note that I found a two-disc set that seemed like a brilliant deal until I realised the dvd was in 4:3 rather than widescreen. The slightly older release has fewer features but I can live without them if it means I get the widescreen version instead.

    Wii play

Winter continues to be wet and wild. There was a fair bit of damage around Perth although most in the southern suburbs from what I can tell. I think it may be clearing up tomorrow. Funny thing is I saw some rainbows both yesterday and today and that’s been unusual for me this year. Usually, that’s one of the benefits of winter around here but I must be missing them or something.

Tonight, the Scientist and I spent time with the boys playing their new game. I had played a couple times on the previous version of this game and failed to see what was so great about it. It was always hard to follow what was happening, not to mention take part in the battle. Today was my first attempt at the new one and although I still find it hard to follow, I think there’s a chance I might be competent enough to join in a game once in a while. I will never particularly enjoy it though.

Earlier in the day, I did a Wii Fit exercise routine that lasted nearly two hours. Much of this time I was engaged in balance, yoga and muscle exercises so I didn’t burn off that many calories. I don’t really enjoy many of the yoga poses in the program, mainly because it feels somewhat unnatural to use the Wii Fit board. I do like doing the warrior pose, though and not just because I am very good at it. Most of the time it feels quite comfortable, the muscles I use for it are strong, and it is just a satisfying feeling. There is a very much modified sun salutation and that one just doesn’t have the right feel to it. Mostly I find that I don’t go into and out of poses the way I should be doing. One day I will try another proper yoga class and hopefully get proper guidance again. Meanwhile, I will keep the idea of doing some proper yoga poses at home alive…and perhaps one day make progress in that direction.

My big accomplishment today on the program is doing the jackknife challenge and completing one hundred of them to “beat” the trainer. I really like this exercise and I am getting much better at it. Far easier than trying a sit up and I think I am getting some benefit to my abdominal muscles.

I’m hoping to get back out on my bicycle on Monday to get some different exercise. I find it hard to stay with the same routines all the time and mixing it up seems to help. I don’t seem to be improving on the weight all that much but I think my fitness level has improved quite a bit. I think my addiction to chocolate may be the problem with the weight…I am just finding it too hard to resist lately.

    Rain

I was abruptly awakened this morning by the sound of rain outside. As soon as my mind registered the rain, I jumped out of bed and ran outside to bring in the clothes I had hung up two days ago. Of course they are now damp so two days obviously wasn’t long enough to dry them. :)

In my early morning bleariness, I looked at the clock and it said 8:30. But as I was rushing outside, I thought to myself that with the time change it should be much brighter than it was. Once I was back inside, I checked it again to discover that it was actually 6:30am instead.
