    Tired

The birthday went pretty well and now it’s already two days later in a flash.  We’ll be doing this with Lego Lover before we know it. Unfortunately, Game Fanatic hasn’t felt that great since his birthday. I suspect a bit of that is post-birthday blues which usually affects him. But he seems to also have some sort of stomach bug or something and was feeling quite unwell today. He noted tonight this is the second time in less than a month that he’s been sick and that’s unusual for him.

The weekend seems to have disappeared so easily. I had so much I’d planned to do but didn’t get around to doing. But I did accomplish one big thing yesterday when I attacked Lego Lover’s Lego area, which is in the middle of our open plan house. I’d put this off for such a long time due to his protestations that he would clean it up and his concerns about my germs (due to having handled the dogs) . Dust and dog fur had collected around the puppy fence that surrounds it (to keep dogs out) and it was filthy and in terrible disarray. I was sweeping the carpet around it and couldn’t get everything up due to that fence and I snapped and got him out there to get it done…should have done that ages ago, really, but it’s so hard to know when to push and when not to push with someone like him. Anyway, it was a good thing and he is quite happy with the result. Everything is not clean but it looks tidy and once we do the same in his room, he can set about cleaning everything and organising it properly.

Meanwhile the Scientist cleared out a lot of the weedy winter grass from one side of the driveway and it looks so much better. Hopefully we can get the other side cleared out in the next few days as there is a green waste pickup coming up next week.

I went off this afternoon to buy a bubble tea from my favorite specialty shop and discovered they had a five dollar special lunch of vegetarian food on Sundays now. I skipped the fried rice and the white rice and chose the potatoes, curried lentils with spinach and some veggies that tasted sort of roasted or lightly stir fried. That was my favorite and it had lots of broccoli and carrots and other yummy stuff in it. I’d already ordered a Jasmine bubble tea, which topped off the meal quite nicely.

I think I perhaps overdid the exercise this afternoon. I tried out the 35 minute spin class and that was a good workout in itself. But then I added in half an hour of rowing and still had the dogs to walk when I got home…It was only my feet that hurt earlier but now my body just feels tired all over. I am booked to donate blood on Tuesday so I had planned to do a workout tomorrow so I can fit in my strength training before I have to take a couple days off from my usual routines.  I now think my body just needs a rest tomorrow and I will just do much lower intensity workouts for a couple days after that. I still have tai chi class tomorrow night so will still get plenty of exercise anyway. I was pleased to record a slight weight drop this weekend and my neck, waist and hips measurements all went down this week.

Totally unrelated, I notice my category list on the WordPress dashboard shows none at the moment. Will have to investigate further tomorrow. For now it’s off to bed to truly rest my weary body.

    The great purge

I opened the refrigerator this morning and found something leftover from a couple weeks ago. This isn’t that unusual but the container it was in was completely hidden behind various other items. It wasn’t much but the fact it had been missed at all bothered me. I decided to clear out a bit of the stuff and ended up getting rid of almost everything within. Several  items had expired more than two years ago. I think the oldest was a container of yeast with a best before date of some time in 2005. It now looks clean and bright in the fridge. Of course we hardly have any food remaining but I am sure that won’t be the case for long.

    Tidying things up

It was one of those cold and wet days of winter today. The rain has stopped but there’s a chill in the air which reaches my bones. I noticed my knees are feeling better today but other body parts are still aching quite a bit.

I managed to start some school “work” with Lego Lover today but that didn’t quite succeed and we ended up in another battle. Last week we stopped the medication he started back in March. We couldn’t see any positive effects and he ended up with stomach aches most nights so it wasn’t worth it. He has now started a different medication which has me feeling somewhat edgy. From reading the experiences of others, it’s a bit hard to judge how well the meds will work for any particular individual. The same medication can be wonderful for one and really terrible for another. So far, I think Lego Lover falls sort of in the middle since we’ve not had particularly great or bad experiences. I do think the shift from one medication to another could be affecting the current mood and hopefully he will settle down in the next few days.

During a heated discussion about “work”, I threatened to remove access to Lego for a time. This didn’t exactly eventuate because LL finally decided he would cooperate. I also started digging into his messy bedroom and the end result is it’s looking quite tidy at the moment. It is no longer the hazardous zone it’s been for weeks and months. Lego Lover did attempt to assist most of the time. It often happened that he would rediscover a forgotten toy and want to “test” it out, delaying the end of the task at hand. Finally, I was able to bring in the vacuum cleaner and remove the layers of dust.

Tomorrow I must get into Game Fanatic’s room and clear out all the dust that’s accumulated there. In the past, I would have had to do a similar cleanout of his room but I’ve found the he is doing quite well at keeping it in good order in the last year or so. It’s quite remarkable, really, that he’s always been particularly untidy and now he’s not. But he doesn’t take it any further so dusting and vacuuming is required at the moment.

    Stirring up dust

We had a family lunch at my mother-in-law’s house yesterday. BIL #2, who lives at the house with his wife, brought home a new desktop computer on Friday but hasn’t set it up because he doesn’t have a desk or table for it. So the Scientist offered an old metal one at our house to use and he is going to come to pick it up today. The difficulty of this offer was that the desk was pretty much buried under all sorts of stuff that had been stored in the same area. The Scientist has spent the last couple hours unearthing forgotten items, much of it junk. But he did get it cleared out and the desk has been removed. Now he’s in the process of putting it all back. Actually, much of it has been transferred to our recycle bin, and some has been thrown out. So the volume is considerably smaller. It should look a lot tidier once he is complete. I had to leave due to the massive amount of dust floating around.
