Shop closed?

About a kilometre from our house is a small shopping center with a grocery store, a newsagent, a deli and a Chinese take-away place. There was a bakery that closed last year and has never been replaced. There used to be a hairdresser but it also closed. One shop has had a video shop, an Oriental food market, a fruit and veg market and probably another business that I can’t recall. The last was the fruit and veg shop  closed abrubtly, leaving all the goods behind. It was a rather disconcerting mess that wasn’t cleared out for many weeks. Perhaps they couldn’t paytheir bills and they left? I don’t know. So we’ve had three vacant shops almost all year. Around Mother’s day a sign went up to say both a cafe and another fruit and veg shop was on the way. Not much progress was seen for months but last month a tiny fruit and veg shop opened inside. The Scientist and I had a quick look soon after it opened and found prices were rather high and there was a limited amount of stock. We did buy some strawberries but nothing else appealed. Anyway, I must admit I rather forgot it was there, being hidden in the least visible shop in the center, and when I did think of it again the following week, it was closed. And when I was back again later in the week, the shop was closed. It hasn’t reopened, to my knowledge, since its first week in business. There are no signs indicating the status of the business either. So I guess that’s another shop gone almost in the blink of an eye. There’s still no evidence of the planned cafe either.

Update: Today we noticed a sign has gone up saying the shop is temporarily closed and that a new business will be opening soon.
