New ways
Tuesday is the day we deliver the community paper to about seven or eight streets in our area. It’s 252 papers although we usually have half a dozen or more remaining when we finish. The paper route is mostly a job for the games fanatic but I almost always help out and sometimes his dad helps out too. Last week, he simply didn’t want to do it so he will miss out on the money. It took me nearly two and a half hours to finish, even with the scientist coming out to help towards the end for about a dozen papers or so. If it weren’t for the money GF would have given it up ages ago. I still suspect it will be gone in the not-too-distant future, especially if another means of earning money presents itself. I think most of the problem has been his anxiety. He gets really worked up if people are around and the stress he endures seems to be worse now than when he started. Anyway, he puts in the bare minimum, if even that, to get paid.
I’ve been pondering whether delivering by bicycle might be easier so I decided to test it out today. The down side is I can only carry a limited number of papers (about twenty) in my basket and possibly a few extra in a bag over my shoulder. Also keeping balance on a bike with a basket full of papers can be tricky, especially if I have to get off to put a paper into the box. The good part was that it took far less time and for the most part was much easier than going on foot. I also somehow burned more calories per hour during my time on my bike. I’m not quite sure how that worked but I like it. I think this may be the future means to deliver the papers, especially if I am left doing the deliveries and don’t give up the paper run.
