Odds and ends
I’m feeling as though there aren’t enough hours in a day right now. I don’t seem to have time to do everything I’d like to do ..sigh…I think maybe I am a bit run down at the moment. I had a few days of improvement on the cough but it’s gotten worse again…not so bad as before but definitely worse than last week. Fun!
We had a very rainy day on Monday…steady rain all day long. I didn’t water our yard on Saturday (our watering day) with the forecast of the almost definite rainfall on Monday. My gamble paid off this time. Everything is looking a bit greener right now. The darkness from my early awakening continued most of the day.
I’ve got way too many videos to watch at the moment. I borrowed The Scarlet Pimpernel (the mini-series) from the library about five weeks ago and have only managed to watch one of the five episodes. I also borrrowed the second half of season two of Grey’s Anatomy from the library and haven’t even started on those. We have three videos from Quickflix that haven’t been watched, all at least partly for me. It’s too much at the moment. Not enough time…sigh.
We bought a low-end, but professional quality telescope yesterday. We had been thinking about this for a while but had put it off because we don’t have a great deal of space for storage. But Game Fanatic’s science class had an astronomy night and the Scientist and I decided, sort of last minute, to get it. It’s on a Dobsonian mount which is easy to move around but doesn’t work well for tracking. One day, we will save enough money to buy a proper mount for it, which will cost more than double the actual telescope. We looked at Saturn last night, which was very cool.
My diet the last couple of days has been poor. Not enough protein and probably too many carbohydrates. I suppose this isn’t very helpful at getting myself back to good health…Funny how it’s a viscious cycle though. I don’t have the energy to cook very much but probably need it more than ever now.
I did do some cooking for Sunday when we had my brother-in-law W, his wife S (who just returned from overseas after an excessive wait for her permanent visa) and the Scientist’s mum for lunch. I wasn’t quite sure of what to cook since I haven’t known BIL’s wife long enough to know her tastes. I stuck to vegetarian dishes plus a pork roast, which worked out pretty well. I guess she doesn’t eat a lot of meat. Next time, I will just make it completely vegetarian, which will be easier for me. I made chickpea and vegetable patties and spinach with mushrooms, garlic and chili and they all came out well. The patties had been done on Saturday night since they take a while to bake. The Scientist did a quick tossed salad and the roast.
I’ve made some progress in clearing out stuff in the games room recently. Most of the stuff stored there is never used so I threw lots of it away, put aside some to give away or sell and saved a couple items for sentimental reasons.
