Curse of the newly resurfaced road

Back when I was a kid, I only three or so bicycle accidents. I don’t remember the first but apparently I ran into our mailbox while going down our driveway. That was probably when I was new to the bicycle. The two I do recall both occurred pretty much in the same place on a newly resurfaced road. I’m not quite sure why the road had to be done twice in close succession…but I had a spill while going around a bend on the road.

Fast forward over thirty years…this evening I had another spill while trying to move from a newly resurface road onto a newly replaced footpath/cycle path. I had moved to the road to go around a couple who were walking and didn’t turn enough when moving back to the footpath and went flying…I’m now sporting some lovely scrapes on the left arm, hand and knee. My neck and shoulder have started hurting more recently and seem to be getting worse rather quickly…So will leave this for now and go rest the battered body.

Ouch! I’m so sorry to hear about your accident! That sounds so painful. It also seems that after that kind of whole-body spill that the system feels a bit tender and wary from the shock.

DH-as-runner has helped me learn to treat with ice more, even muscle aches from injuries. Only ice an area for ten minutes (time it), because the benefit comes from the extra blood flow to the area after the ice is removed. Who would have thunk it? I also have a number of friends, including a couple of nurses who swear by arnica gel to reduce soreness. I can’t vouch for it myself, but I’ve heard good things about it.

Anyway, I hope you feel some improvement soon. I also hope your BP starts behaving!
