Missing

Last week I took Lego Lover to have a dental x-ray so that we get an idea of what the future holds for him, dentally speaking. There was a bit of chaos getting these to the dentist. I was told by him to just come by (no appointment required) with them on a Monday afternoon and he would see me about them for a few minutes. I suspect his wasn’t a practical solution. When I arrived it was packed and I ended up being sent away and leaving them at the office. It would have been easier to have the radiology service send them directly and save me a long trip (it wasn’t that long because I was reasonably close but it was still well out of my way).

Today I phoned up because I had still heard nothing. When I called I was eventually told that, by mistake, he hadn’t gotten them and that asked her to apologise for him. No apology from the staff who failed to pass them on though. I was told he would call me later in the afternoon and really had to press for a time as I had to go out. The woman seemed to find it strange that I wouldn’t provide a mobile phone number so he could call me when I was out. As important as the call was for me, I was going to be out and it was going to be difficult to take a call because I was out. I seem to be quite an exception these days.

The dentist did call and apologised then by saying he had gotten the film earlier but hadn’t had a chance to look at them. I’d guess he was covering for his staff but I didn’t say anything.

Apparently the x-ray was very illuminating…lol…Lego Lover is missing one of his lateral incisors and the other one is apparently a peg…not quite sure what that is but it sounds like it’s not a complete tooth. He’s also missing a permanent molar on one side. I already had guessed about the molar because it looked pretty obvious on the film. The other two were hard to judge due to the mish mash of teeth I saw.

Any future work on his teeth won’t be determined until he has all his adult teeth and we see how his canines come in. I’m guessing that orthodontic work will somehow figure in his life at one stage, though, because his mouth is already getting crowded and he’s still got a lot of permanent teeth to emerge. The ones missing may be more of a benefit in the end. In the meantime, we just keep doing routine dental visits with the same dentist so that he becomes comfortable in that environment. The dentist feels fairly certain, based on the first visit, that Lego Lover will be quite all right by the time we need to do anything.

This missing teeth issue seems to be mostly a genetic thing but aside from Lego Lover, I don’t know of any family members with this problem…aside from the fact my younger brother only had three wisdom teeth, which I think is very common.
